Water Testing
Corinth Gas and Water Department strives to produce high quality drinking water. To insure that our water is safe to drink Corinth Gas & Water regularly performs bacteriological and physical chemical analysis as required by state and federal laws. Failure to comply with the laws could result in monetary fines and/or mandated closure of the water system.
Corinth Gas & Water is bound by state and federal laws to have personnel certified to operate our water plants and production wells. To obtain certification a person ust train under the supervision of a certified operator, attend training classes and pass n exam administered by the Mississippi State Department of Health. Certified operators ust regularly attend training sessions in order to maintain their certification.
Our operators currently perform in-house testing of the water at all wells a minimum of 3 days per week. These tests measure chlorine, fluoride, phosphate, and pH levels. The operator also conducts the same tests at various locations in the distribution system on a monthly basis. The results of all tests are recorded and kept on file as required by Mississippi State Department of Health regulations.
Our water is also tested by state agencies. These water samples are taken by our operator and the analysis is performed by the Mississippi State Department of Health. Monthly bacteriological and fluoride analysis is required. Other tests also are conducted quarterly, semi- annually, annually, or every 2 to 3 years. Test are conducted for trihalomethanes, haloacetic acid, lead, copper, IOC (Inorganic Compounds), VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds), nitrates and nitrites levels. These results are published in our Water Quality Report that is mailed annually to our customers.
The Mississippi State Department of Health performs annual inspections of our facilities. During these inspections Health Department personnel examines each well site, filter plant and storage tank. The inspector also reviews the technical, managerial, and financial capacities of the water system. The resulting scores are compiled in a detailed report.
The Federal government mandates increasingly stringent regulations for water quality and system security. These regulations are handed down to the state level for enforcement. Corinth Gas & Water Department complies with all state and federal regulations.
